A Fresh Take on an Old-School Advertising Tactic

Characters as spokespeople for food products have been around a long time, since the cherubic “Campbell Kids” first graced the company’s soup cans in 1904. More recently, these advertising icons—think Cheetos “Chester the Cheetah”—are used to market less-than-healthy products to kids, and research confirms the tactic works. When Moxxy strategized with Peterson Farms to work on a school-targeted, fresh-cut apple and apple sauce initiative, we decided there was a place for a dependable character to flip the switch, and promote nutritious apple snacks, especially where young audiences are captive.

Introducing Corey

Corey the apple was developed in the tradition of food advertising icons, as an engaging character for school-aged kids (K-12) with a friendly, fun name referencing an apple “core.” He was brought to life as an elementary, happy, bright, approachable graphic and worked into designs from packaging to truck graphics. Corey is the face of Peterson Farm’s Treats™ and promotes consumption of healthy apple snacks at school, in accordance with FDA recommendations.

Feed Your Audience

We know kids are drawn to bright colors and having choices, and Treats meet those expectations, while parents and school administrations like content-visible packaging and the ease of prepped fruit, so Peterson Farm’s Treats come in ready-to-eat, portioned bags diced or sliced and applesauce containers in an array of colors and fun flavors (like cotton candy!). Corey even changes his clothes with the seasons. Kudos to Peterson Farms and Corey—we think kids are getting the message and liking the products in their schools!

Drive it Home

Branded sell sheets emphasize larger-scale distribution and lunchroom partnership opportunities available for school systems nationally. And kids can spot Peterson Farms Treats and Corey all across the country on truck graphics and high-impact packaging in their schools. In partnership with visionary educators there is no limit to what Corey can accomplish on behalf of nutrition and healthier kids. So watch out Captain Crunch—there’s a new character in town.
