LinkedIn – it’s not just for job searching. In fact, if you’re only turning to LinkedIn when you’re looking for a career change, you’re not using the platform to its full potential. Different from a company page, many professionals will benefit from maintaining an engaging personal profile. Decision makers are waiting to hear from you! LinkedIn says these profiles are well-primed – four out of five members drive business decisions at their companies.
For making meaningful connections, engaging with the media, and finding qualified sales leads — LinkedIn is the place to be. Here are some tips for using the network to make the most of your presence there.
Join Groups to Find Clients & Customers
Credit LinkedIn’s VP of Marketing for this tip. Search for groups that reflect your industry’s interests and activities. This is a great place to make connections with customers, partners, and future clients. Engage and create posts within the group, but keep it general. Many groups frown upon overly self-promotional content within the confines of the community. Some great groups for the produce industry are:
- International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA)
- Fresh Produce Business
- Fresh Ideas: IFPA Produce and Floral Marketing Professionals
- Fresh Produce Industry Discussion Group
These are just a few – we certainly couldn’t list all of them! It’s also a good idea to start your own group to attract like-minded folks or host impromptu poll discussions with your consumers.
Post Relevant Updates – Often!
LinkedIn likes those who connect, engage, and share their insights with others – on a daily basis. The best way to get noticed and encourage others to interact with you is to post relevant industry commentary. Just keep it related to your industry, career, or brand – there are other social networks out there for personal social media content.
Check your Social Selling Index (SSI) Score
According to LinkedIn, “Your LinkedIn Social Selling Index (SSI) measures how effective you are at establishing your professional brand, finding the right people, engaging with insights, and building relationships.” This number from 1 to 100 ranks how well you’re maintain your network, how engaging and relevant your updates are, and ultimately measures how likely you are to gain sales from your network when they see you as a trusted industry resource.
